Jul 26, 2018

It often feels as though companies have the upper hand when it comes to hiring, especially with all the fantastic tools at a hiring managers’ fingertips. Did you know there is a multitude of ways you can reverse engineer these tools, to your benefit?

Here are just a few of my favorite tips and tricks to making today’s best hiring tools work for you:

EMPLOYER REVIEW SITES. It’s a fact - hiring managers are checking you out on social media. Return the favor by visiting employer review sites such as GlassDoor, Great Place to Work, Comparably, Vault, The Job Crowd, and Kununu.

The more you know about your potential employer, the more data you have in your arsenal during your interviews. It’s time candidates more thoroughly vet their future employers before signing on the dotted line; wouldn’t you agree?

JOBSCAN. Word clouds, optimization, and algorithms, oh my! Jobscan.com is a tool that uses the same smart algorithms applied by the world's’ top Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). When you keyword optimize your resume with the same terms used in the job postings you are targeting, you are sure to land more interviews.

SALARY COMPARISON TOOLS. One of the most challenging aspects of applying for a job can be when asked about your desired salary. Most of us want to make more money, but we don’t want to risk asking for too much. Using a salary calculation tool takes out all of the guesswork. You can base your monetary ask on real-life data which always looks more professional. We like to use Glassdoor or Indeed’s salary calculation tools.

AUTOMATED INTERVIEW PRACTICE TOOLS. Many companies are now using automated interviewing solutions. Software companies that provide pre-programmed interview services, such as Sonru, will often have information on their blogs on how to get the best result from your web-based interview. Spend time perfecting your approach, so these types of interviews are no longer intimidating. Another excellent resource for interview question and answer practice is Mockquestions.com.

YOUR FAVORITE RECRUITER. Tapping into the network of a trusted recruiter is an excellent way to connect with top employers in your area. At AmyColeConnect, we love to match amazing candidates, like you, with reputable companies!
